PanCanadian Spending $1.2B Next Year

Calgary-based PanCanadian Petroleum Ltd. announced a $1.2billion capital spending program for 2000, an increase over 1999.The company plans to spend $940 million primarily in theexploration and development of PanCanadian’s western Canadaproperties, with a significant portion devoted to growing gasassets, including off Nova Scotia, in the Gulf of Mexico andoverseas.

GPU, NUI Team Up in Retail Markets

GPU Advanced Resources of Reading, PA, and NUI Energy, ofBedminster, NJ, formed a retail marketing alliance that will giveeach company access to the other’s unregulated retail gas andelectric customers. GPU Advanced Resources currently serves about17,000 electric customers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, while NUIis active in retail gas customer choice programs in New Jersey,Pennsylvania and Maryland. The alliance is effective immediately.

Southern Company Energy Marketing’s new president, GaryMorsches, shifted some personnel around yesterday to optimizeperformance. John Ragan, formerly west regional vice president,becomes east regional vice president. He also will oversee SCEM’scommodities group, which handles trading in coal, emissionscredits, weather derivatives and pulp/paper markets. Bill Orr,formerly northeast regional vice president, becomes west regionalvice president. Jay Catasein, project development vice president,becomes northeast regional vice president. Ron Erd is promoted fromdirector to vice president of market development. In addition toresponsibility for market development and structuring, Erd willassume responsibility for the project development group. SCEM is ajoint venture between Southern Energy Inc. and Vastar ResourcesInc.

Altrade: New Online Power Trading a Success

After the first full week of trading, Altra Energy Technologies’new online power trading platform, Altrade Power, has been an”absolute” success, the company said last week. The new system,which started service Oct. 14, has already performed transactionstotaling two million MWh.

Kinder Morgan and KN Energy announced the completion of theirmerger. The company has been renamed Kinder Morgan, Inc. and willtrade under the New York Stock Exchange symbol “KMI.” The $900million merger was announced last July.

Eastern Enterprises Using Excelergy Systems

Excelergy, a Boston, MA-based energy software solutions company,has agreed to provide web-based billing and customer servicesystems to Boston Gas and two other gas distribution subsidiariesof Eastern Enterprises. In an announcement made yesterday, BostonGas and Excelergy said the new systems will provide better supportfor customers and prepare the utilities for the upcoming transitionto deregulation. Financial terms of the transactions were notdisclosed. Boston Gas said a final installation date has not beenset.

DPL Inc., parent of the Dayton Power and Light Co., was recentlyselected by the Indiana Farm Bureau as its energy partner, thecompany said last week. Under the agreement, DPL Energy will be theenergy provider of choice for the Indiana Farm Bureau and itsmembership, supplying natural gas and other energy services. Thisannouncement comes on the heels of DPL and the Ohio Farm Bureaurenewing their eight-year relationship. The Indiana Farm Bureau hasrepresented Hoosier farmers since 1919 and is now the largestagricultural organization in Indiana with more than 272,000members. It provides its members with a number of value-addedservices that include insurance, accounting, education, and nownatural gas through DPL Energy. DPL currently manages approximately25 Bcf of natural gas annually.

Oneok Capitalizing on Gas With Power Entry

Oneok Inc. plans to enter the electric generation and powermarketing businesses with an Oklahoma generating facility. Thecompany signed a contract with General Electric to buy four gasturbine generators with a capacity of 300 MW. A generation facilityencompassing the four units will be constructed and in service byJune 1, 2001.
