Citing a “significant decline in usage” at its facility on the Maryland shore, Dominion Cove Point LNG LP (DCP) has called on FERC to clarify that under its tariff it has the authority to require shippers to deliver liquefied natural gas (LNG) by tanker to its import terminal to keep the cryogenic portions of the terminal cooled or face penalties.

Citing limited operational flexibility to manage imbalances over the long holiday weekend, Tennessee issued a systemwide Balancing Alert for Saturday that required all delivery point operators to keep actual daily takes from the system equal to or greater than scheduled quantities, and all receipt point operators to keep actual daily receipts into the system equal to or less than scheduled quantities. The requirement applied in each case regardless of the operator’s cumulative imbalance position.

GE Talks Up Turbines, Other Energy Plays

General Electric views the future of energy globally as upbeat, citing several “positive trends in energy” in reporting a 58% hike in its operating earnings to $3.5 billion in the first quarter this year, compared to the same period in 2010. Both CEO Jeffrey Immelt and CFO Keith Sherin talked bullishly about GE’s various energy plays, particularly global turbine orders, during a conference call with financial analysts Thursday.

PG&E Delays Nuke Plant Relicensing

Citing public and industry concerns stemming from the disaster at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) on Monday said it will suspend a relicensing effort for its Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant along the central California coast, pending the completion of updated seismic tests.
