FERC Signs Off on Kern River Expansion 2003

FERC at its Wednesday meeting issued Kern River a certificate to build its long-awaited 2003 expansion project, which would more than double the existing capacity of the Wyoming-to-California pipeline. The move opens the door for the construction of a huge new conduit for nearly 900 MMcf/d of additional natural gas to exit the Rocky Mountain region and head to the flood of new power plants in Nevada and California starting next May.

Kern River Kicks Off 2003 Expansion Project

Kern River Gas Transmission officially kicked off construction on its $1.2 billion, 900 MMcf/d 2003 expansion project, which received a final certificate from FERC on July 17 (see Daily GPI, July 18). The project will more than double Kern River’s current transportation capacity, providing much needed market access for burgeoning gas supplies coming from supply basins in the northern Rocky Mountain region.

FERC Grants Certificate for FGT Phase VI Expansion

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Wednesday gave final approval to Florida Gas Transmission Co.’s (FGT) Phase VI expansion, which will add 85,356 Dth/d of capacity and 33 miles of pipeline to meet increasing demand mainly from gas-fired power generators in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Florida.

Cross Bay Pipeline to New York City Gets FERC Nod

Although it harbored a few concerns, FERC last week gave certificate authorization to Cross Bay Pipeline Co. LLC of Houston last Wednesday to assume ownership of a 37-mile portion of Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line’s Lower New York Bay Extension and add 16,000 hp of compression in Middlesex County, NY, in order to boost gas deliveries into New York City by about 125,000 Dth/d. The Cross Bay project, first announced in January 1998, is estimated to cost $59.5 million.

FERC last week issued a certificate to Questar Pipeline to begin building its 75-mile, 272,000 Dth/d pipeline loop running from northeastern Utah to the north central part of the state. The proposed facilities would transport to western markets the growing coal-seam natural gas production near Price, UT, and the volumes delivered to Questar from Colorado Interstate Gas’s (CIG) Uinta Basin Lateral at Natural Buttes.
