Trailblazer Pipeline received a final green light from FERC this week to add 324 MMcf/d of firm capacity to its existing pipeline system in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska. The expansion will bring the pipe’s total firm capacity to about 816 MMcf/d in July 2002. However, the Commission denied Trailblazer’s request to modify its right of first refusal process and rejected the pipeline company’s related pro forma tariff sheets. It accepted the incremental rate design of the project, however.

The national pipeline expansion frenzy continued last week with Tennessee Gas Pipeline announcing a certificate application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to add new pipeline capacity in New England at its connection with the Maritimes & Northeast pipeline, which imports Canadian gas produced offshore Nova Scotia at the Sable Offshore Energy Project.

Colorado Interstate Gas received a FERC certificate last Wednesday to expand its Raton Basin facilities to keep pace with expanding coal-bed methane production. CIG will construct two new compressor stations, add to a third, and build a total of 69 miles of pipe to deliver 85 MMcf/d into major interstate lines.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission voted out a conditional certificate at last week’s regular meeting for the proposed 70-mile long Horizon Pipeline to carry 380 MMcf/d from the Joliet, IL, hub into northern Illinois.
