CNX Says Casing Possibly at Fault in Utica Well Incident

CNX Resources Corp. continues to investigate how it lost control of a deep, dry Utica Shale well in southwest Pennsylvania late last month, but the company revealed in a regulatory filing that it faulty casing could be to blame.

The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) on Tuesday approved RRC staff-recommended revisions to proposed changes to commission rules governing casing, cementing, drilling and completion of wells; cathodic protection wells; and seismic holes and core holes. Changes were initially proposed in September in response to action by the Texas Legislature. The revised proposal for changes takes into account responses received by commission staff during a public comment period. The current 45-day public comment period will end at noon April 1. A public hearing is scheduled for 1:30 CST Feb. 21 at the RRC’s Austin office.

ZaZa Energy: We’re Unlocking Eaglebine

Houston-based ZaZa Energy has completed drilling and casing its Eaglebine Stingray A-1H well in Walker County, TX, and evaluation results are “very encouraging,” with estimates of 21 Bcf of gas and 29 million bbl of oil per section in place. ZaZa expects to begin hydraulic fracturing operations on Monday (Nov. 12), with initial production planned for late this month.

Producers, States Press BLM to Withdraw Fracking Rule

States and producers Monday called on the Obama administration to either withdraw or suspend a proposed rule that would require companies to publicly disclose chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing (fracking) operations on federal and Indian lands. Environmental and conservation groups lobbied for the federal government to tighten the rule.

Colorado Regulators Delay Fracking Rules Action

Amid cries for Stronger safeguards regarding the public disclosure of chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing (fracking), the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) on Monday put off for a week or more finalizing the state’s proposed new rules on disclosing fracking chemicals used in oil and gas shale fracking operations. COGCC heard more than 11 hours of testimony in Denver.

Anadarko Petroleum said a field extension well in the BossierSand Play in East Texas is flowing at 51.5 MMcf/d at 4,500 psiflowing casing pressure. Blair A-3 well began flowing April 28. Thecompany’s production from the Bossier Play has increased to morethan 195 MMcf/d (gross). Anadarko is making modifications to itsDew Gathering System to accommodate the production increase. Thewell in the Dew Field,Freestone County, reached total depth of12,885 feet on April 13. The company has an 82.5% working interestin the well with El Paso Production owning the remaining 17.5%.Anadarko has 21 rigs in operation throughout its East Texas BossierPlay.
