Dominion Cove Point plans to shut down its liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Lusby, MD, for the entire month of June to carry out maintenance related to the expansion of its facilities. A major customer of the terminal believes the impact of the temporary closure of the 1 Bcf/d plant on the U.S. gas market will be minimal.

As expected, the changing of the guard in the Alaska governor’s mansion has brought with it a rethinking of plans for a natural gas pipeline to carry production from the state’s gas-rich North Slope to the Lower 48. The state has thrown open the doors to new proposals for monetizing its gas resource, and one project backer is calling the change in approach “a breath of fresh air.”

Alaskan Ultimatums Continue Over Natural Gas Long Line

In a press conference Thursday, Governor Frank H. Murkowski announced that he has delivered a proposed contract for construction of a long-disputed pipeline to carry Alaska natural gas to the Lower 48, to the main producers in Alaska, ExxonMobil, BP and ConocoPhillips. “I urge the producers to respond affirmatively and immediately.”

MMS Solicits Comments to Develop Five-Year Lease Plan

As part of the process to develop its next five-year leasing program and carry out a congressionally mandated inventory of Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) energy resources, the Bush administration is asking the public to comment on whether existing moratoria on offshore oil and natural gas drilling should be “modified or expanded” to allow interested states to explore off of their coasts, and whether the government should work with Congress to develop natural gas-only leases.
