Senate Dems Cite Concerns with Planned Alaska Lease Sale

A coalition of 19 Senate Democrats led by Sen. Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico has called on Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne to take a closer look at several issues surrounding an oil and natural gas lease sale that is scheduled for September in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A).

Senators Introduce Bill to Move OCS Leasing Closer to Florida Coast

U.S. Sens. Pete Domenici (R-NM), Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), Jim Talent (R-MO) and Byron Dorgan (D-ND) have launched a counterattack on the issue of drilling in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, introducing legislation Tuesday instructing the Secretary of the Interior to develop an oil and gas leasing program for Lease Area 181 that can extend up to a line 100 miles off the Florida Coast and west of the Military Mission Line.

President to Sign Energy Bill in New Mexico Today

Out of deference to the chief Senate negotiators on the energy bill, Sens. Pete Domenici and Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico, President Bush will sign the sweeping energy bill into law on Monday (Aug. 8) at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM.
