Rio Bravo Energy, a joint venture between Tidelands Oil &Gas Corp., a Texas-based producer and Hudson SVD, a natural gasgathering and marketing company, announced the formation of SonoraPipeline yesterday. Sonora will own and operate a 53-mile gatheringsystem located in Dimmit and Zavala counties, TX. This line will beinterconnected with Rio Bravo’s Pena Creek Gathering System, whichservices the Chittim Gas Processing Plant recently acquired by RioBravo from Conoco. The plant is a propane refrigeration plant witha nominal capacity of 5 MMcf/d and a liquid fractionation train.The Pena Creek Gathering System which serves the Plant consists of15 miles of gathering and compression facilities.

California Deep Drilling Draws Canadians

In the wake of a well blowout and fire that burned for months inthe oil/gas saturated area between Bakersfield and the Elk Hillspetroleum reserve, a flood of small and medium-size Canadianbackers have moved into this old production region 100 miles northof Los Angeles, betting that new significant pools of natural gascan be found with deep-drilling below 15,000 feet.

Guardian Gets Boost From Wisconsin Businesses

A host of Wisconsin businesses, labor unions and state and localgovernment officials have rallied behind the proposed GuardianPipeline as their last, best hope of injecting natural gascompetition into the state. The coalition, which includes GovernorTommy Thompson, said the proposed 147-mile, $230 million interstatepipeline can create competition with ANR Pipeline, resulting inlower energy prices for consumers and increased reliability.

September Aftermarket Begins on the Downside

Between a plunging screen and mild-to-cool weather almosteverywhere outside the southern U.S., it hardly came as a shock totraders that Tuesday’s swing deals done for today only would failto measure up to September index levels. However, some consideredthe ability of crude oil futures to stay above $22/bbl and eventack on an extra dime a mitigating factor in keeping the initialaftermarket softness fairly mild.

The recent agreement between TransCanada PipeLines and theNorthwest Territories (NWT) (See Daily GPI, July 29) makes it plainthat both parties have their sights set on bigger game thanrelatively modest pipeline extensions into the southern part of theTerritories. After lying dormant for a decade, visions are revivingof a route extending all the way to the Mackenzie Delta and theBeaufort Sea to tap an estimated 13 Tcf or more of reserves foundin a 1970s drilling boom.
