Enron Seeks to Subpoena Energy Officials in Gaming Hearing

Enron Corp. on behalf of affiliates Enron Power Marketing and Enron Energy Services has asked FERC to subpoena officials associated with several power companies and electric provider groups, claiming that they have “personal knowledge and information” or can provide exculpatory/favorable evidence in an ongoing proceeding at the agency in which the once-powerful energy firm is accused of gaming California’s electric market in 2000-2001.

AEP to Sell 10 Texas Plants to Sempra/Equity Fund Joint Venture

American Electric Power (AEP) last Monday said that its Texas Central Co. (TCC) unit has signed an agreement to sell its remaining generating assets, including eight natural gas plants, one coal-fired plant and one hydro plant, to a joint venture of Sempra Energy Partners and Carlyle/Riverstone Global Energy and Power Fund for $430 million.

Transportation Notes

ANR said Saturday the riser work at its Eugene Island 371 platform had been completed and the associated outages at that platform, Eugene Island 341 and Green Canyon 237 had been lifted. The work ended several days ahead of the 10 days that ANR had projected when it began last week (see Daily GPI, July 30).

Salvage work at Ship Shoal 207 associated with last year’s Hurricane Lili (see Daily GPI, July 1) has been completed, ANR said. It resumed accepting gas into its system Thursday from meters between Eugene Island 188 and Ship Shoal 207.

Cold Air Fails to Prop Up Futures; More Bearishness Likely This Week

Despite cold weather in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast and associated up ticks in physical gas prices, natural gas futures slid lower Monday in another in a growing string of lackluster trading sessions. After pushing prices lower in the morning, local traders covered their shorts in the afternoon when it became apparent a close below $5.00 was not in the cards. May finished at $5.06, down 8.6 cents for the session. At 42,486, estimated volume was extremely light.

ANR said Wednesday it had completed engine maintenance at its Havensville (KS) Compressor Station, two days earlier than anticipated (see Daily GPI, Nov. 6). The associated Southwest Mainline capacity reduction was lifted.
