Questar Corp.’s initial results from the 2001 drilling and completion operations on the Pinedale Anticline in western Wyoming are encouraging enough to warrant more drilling and additional gathering facilities, company officials said Monday, projecting that based on the new results, oil and gas production at year-end 2001 could triple over year-earlier levels.

After looking at what Conoco CEO Archie Dunham said were more than 80 properties in the last two years, the fourth largest major announced last week that it would buy Gulf Canada Resources Ltd. in a cash deal worth $4.3 billion (C$6.7 billion). The deal would push Conoco’s worldwide reserves almost 40% to 3.7 Bboe, adding Gulf Canada’s assets in North America, Indonesia, the Netherlands and Ecuador.

Cabot LNG, currently the only active liquefied natural gas importer on the East Coast, has entered into a second 20-year charter agreement with Norwegian shipping giant Bergesen for a 138,000 cubic meter LNG carrier. Cabot’s first carrier agreement was completed in November 2000 and both vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2003.

Public Service Company of Colorado’s (PSCO) abandonment of its Leyden Storage facility over the next few years has prompted a series of storage and transportation changes on Colorado Interstate Gas that are designed to replace the storage service at Leyden and meet growing demand from six other customers in Colorado. The project, which was approved by FERC last week, is expected to cost $58 million and be in service in September.

Reliant Energy Power Generation Inc. said it is buying the 150MW Sunrise Power Plant in Las Vegas and a 222 MW power purchaseagreement relating to three adjacent gas turbine generation unitsknown as Sun-Peak from Sierra Pacific Resources for $33 million.The deal, which is subject to regulatory approvals, gives Reliantabout 372 MW of generation capacity. In addition, Reliant andSierra Pacific subsidiary Nevada Power entered into a short- termpower supply agreement.
