Seneca Resources Corp., the exploration and production subsidiary of National Fuel Gas Co.(NFG), said Tuesday that 90.5% of the outstanding common shares of Player Petroleum Corp. have been tendered in response to its offer to acquire the Canadian producer.

In a $112 million cash transaction, Penn Virginia Corp., headquartered in Radnor, PA, is acquiring Synergy Oil & Gas Inc. of Houston, a privately owned independent. Synergy’s exploration and production is focused along the onshore Texas Gulf Coast and in West Texas, holding about 59.2 Bcfe in total net proved reserves, with 55% in natural gas.

Crosstex Acquires 520-Mile CCNG System

Dallas-based Crosstex Energy Services Inc. has acquired Corpus Christi Natural Gas Co. LP from an affiliate of Shell U.S. Gas & Power Co., The purchase includes CCNG’s gathering, processing, transmission, marketing and industrial pipeline affiliates. In a related transaction, which fits geographically with the CCNG purchase, Crosstex also acquired the 200-mile South Texas Pettus gathering system from Plains Resources. No financial details were disclosed.

TradeSpark Acquires TCT, Opens Houston Office

Eight months after its inception, TradeSpark continues to climb the ranks of online exchanges, announcing late last week that it has purchased TCT Natural Gas Inc., a Houston natural gas brokerage house, and opened a TradeSpark office in Houston. The company said the new division will give the New York-based energy marketplace a stronghold in the Houston area and immediate gas options trading capabilities.

Elk Point Acquires Alberta Assets

Calgary-based Elk Point Resources Inc. increased its core area of operations this week, agreeing to pay C$24.8 million to purchase some natural gas and light crude oil assets in the Pembina, Easyford and Bigoray areas of Alberta. Current net production from the properties is approximately 2.9 MMcf/d, 385 bbl/d of light crude oil and 55 bbl/d of natural gas liquids — 730 boe/d total.

Ocean Energy Reels in Another, Acquires Ensight

Houston-based Ocean Energy Inc. continued on its acquisition trail last Monday, reporting it has entered into a definitive purchase and sale agreement with EnSight Resources L.L.C. to acquire all of EnSight’s oil and gas assets, located primarily in East Texas and North Louisiana. The companies said they expect the approximate $121 million transaction to close on or before April 20 with an effective date of Jan.1, 2001.
