Gas Natural Inc. unit Spelman Pipeline Holdings LLC has acquired pipeline assets in Ohio and Kentucky from Marathon Petroleum Co. LP. In Ohio the assets include more than 140 miles of pipeline spanning almost a third of the state from Marion to Youngstown. Other Ohio assets are in metropolitan and south suburban Cleveland. The Kentucky assets include more than 60 miles of right-of-way in the Louisville area and points south. Spelman intends to convert the Ohio pipelines from refined products and oil to transport natural gas to new markets where gas service is not currently available as well as to link it to markets served by its Ohio affiliates. Future plans include extending the lines to participate in the Utica and Marcellus shale plays, the company said. Plans for the Kentucky assets are not yet determined, Spelman said.

Privately held Crestwood Midstream Partners LP has completed its acquisition of midstream assets in the Fayetteville Shale in northwest Arkansas and the Granite Wash play in the Texas Panhandle, the Houston-based company said. The deal was announced in February.

JayHawk Energy Inc. has begun evaluating for drilling its recently acquired acreage in the Bakken Shale. The Post Falls, ID-based company also said it was looking to add more acreage to its Bakken holdings and plans to accelerate its efforts through purchases and joint ventures through 2011. JayHawk has procured more than 1,066 gross acres — about 135 net acres — in Divide County, ND. Spacing of wells is currently 1,280 acres, so JayHawk said it will pool its acreage with other interest holders in order to drill a well, possibly by 4Q2011.

Laser Northeast Gathering Co. LLC has started construction on its gathering and transportation pipeline in Susquehanna County, PA, and expects the project to bring substantial investment and jobs to northeastern Pennsylvania, CEO Thomas F. Karam said at a groundbreaking ceremony in New Milford, PA, Tuesday.

Denver-based Antero Resources, which has begun to expand its holdings in the Marcellus Shale, said Thursday it has acquired privately held Bluestone Energy Partners, an Appalachian natural gas producer.

The Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission (PUC) should deny an application from Laser Northeast Gathering Co. LLC to be deemed a public utility with the ability to exercise the right of public domain for its proposed gathering and transportation pipeline in Susquehanna County, PA, according to an administrative law judge’s (ALJ) recommendation to the PUC.

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR) has acquired certain oil and gas assets in southeast Texas in two related deals valued at a combined $40 million, the firm said. The assets are largely comprised of long-lived natural gas wells producing out of the Wilcox formation. The acquisitions are the first by KKR Natural Resources, KKR’s partnership with Premier Natural Resources, which was formed earlier this year to pursue oil and gas investments in North America.
