Storage Draw Seen as Season’s Second Highest; March Stumbles

March natural gas futures fell in moderate trading Wednesday as traders noted the market’s continued inability to reposition itself above the psychologically important $4 resistance level. At the closing bell March futures were 5.5 cents lower at $3.921 and April had lost 6.9 cents to $3.961. March crude oil posted a gain of 67 cents to $84.99/bbl.

California Gov. Again Looks Offshore for Budget Relief

Faced with a widening budget deficit that some analysts place above $20 billion in the new year, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger indicated that he is revisiting a proposal to expand offshore drilling in order to generate more than $200 million of revenues. A proposal to open drilling offshore Santa Barbara County early in 2009 was rejected by the State Lands Commission.

Colder-than-Expected Weather Lifts Virtually All Points

The National Weather Service may have been off a bit when it predicted above-normal temperatures during the current workweek in nearly all of the eastern three-fourths of the United States. (see Daily GPI, Nov. 12). Traders returned from rather mild weekends in many cases to find forecasts of Tuesday lows in the 20s, 30s and 40s in Canada and most of the northern U.S., spreading as far south as the Midcontinent and Texas. The result was flat to much higher prices at all points Monday.
