Abound

Forecasts predicting the number and intensity of hurricanes predicted to affect the United States abound every year, but a Shell Exploration and Production (E&P) executive said Monday that a long-term forecast “bluntly, has nothing to do with our preparations.”

With construction still ongoing Friday on three of its four major transmission upgrades that will collectively add 375 MMcf/d of capacity on its transmission pipeline system, Southern California Gas Co., Los Angeles, acknowledged its modified implementation plan for its in-state pipeline/storage restructuring will be on track by the fall when crunch time comes. Even so, the detailed steps outlined in a filing with state regulators last month indicated that there will be implementation continuing through next year to fully integrate all parts of what is called the “comprehensive settlement agreement” between the gas utility and its major customer/stakeholders.

Punctuating Monday’s 32.6-cent price slide, natural gas futures probed lower Tuesday, as traders initiated the session by demoting the market to its second straight gap-lower open. Prices shuffled lower throughout the morning, augmented by a boost of selling pressure, as the December contract broke beneath the $2.835 low from Oct. 24. However support held and the prompt month retraced a portion of those losses in the afternoon to close with a 4.2-cent loss at $2.88.
