Capacity bids submitted for Wyckoff Gas Storage Project’s recent open season exceeded the 6 Bcf of available Phase I working gas capacity by more than 50%, and the sponsors plan to hold another open season for additional capacity as part of its Phase II expansion. The project is sponsored by Emera Inc. and Falcon Gas Storage subsidiary Greyhawk Gas Storage Co.

“The response to Wyckoff’s proposed services has been very strong,” said Edmund Knolle, executive vice president of Falcon. “The results of the open season underscore the need for additional storage capacity to provide the increased supply flexibility necessary to meet the growing weather-sensitive natural gas load in the Northeast, as well as to meet the unique swing supply needs of gas-fired electric power generators.”

Wyckoff filed an application for a certificate with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in December 2002 to develop the Wyckoff field into a high-deliverability, multi-cycle (HDMC) gas storage facility. Located in Steuben County, NY, Wyckoff has a Phase I working gas capacity design of 6 Bcf with a peak withdrawal capacity of 400,000 MMBtu/d and a peak injection capacity of 250,000 MMBtu/d. Receipt and delivery points will include the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Line 400 Line, the Dominion Transmission TL-453 Line and the Columbia A5 Line.

Because of the high level of interest for the Phase I open season, Greyhawk plans to hold an open season for additional capacity, which would be made available as part of a Phase II expansion, pending FERC approval of the Wyckoff project. Details will be announced within the next several weeks. For more information, contact Knolle (713) 961-3204 or at eknolle@falcongasstorage.com.
