The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee said that it has scheduled a hearing for June 8 to consider the Bush administration’s renomination of Suedeen Kelly to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Kelly, a Democrat, joined the agency late last year to fill the remainder of a term that expires June 30. She was appointed to join the panel’s three Republicans because no more than three members of the Commission can be from the same political party. The Commission is still short one member. Kelly’s new term, which the White House approved in March, would expire June 30, 2009.

Kelly is supported by Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), ranking minority member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. She previously was part of the committee’s legal staff. She also previously practiced with the firm of Modrall, Sperling, Roehl, Harris & Sisk in Albuquerque and served as regulatory counsel for the California ISO. Kelly graduated from the University of Rochester and has a law degree from Cornell School of Law.
