Southern Company’s board of directors has made Gale Klappa asenior vice president. Klappa also has been named an executive vicepresident of Southern Company Services, the subsidiary thatsupports Southern Company’s domestic and international affiliates.In October, Klappa was named Southern Company’s chief strategicofficer. She most recently served as president of the North AmericaGroup of Southern Energy Inc., a Southern Company subsidiary.Southern also announced that its board of directors has named MarceFuller an executive vice president. In July, Fuller was madepresident and chief executive officer of Southern Energy Inc.Fuller directs Southern Energy’s worldwide operations. Beforebecoming Southern Energy’s president and CEO, Fuller, 39, served asexecutive vice president of Southern Energy and president and CEOof affiliate Southern Company Energy Marketing, a partnershipformed in 1997 by Southern Energy and Vastar Resources Inc.

PG&E Energy Services, the national retail unit of PG&ECorp., announced that it has hired Lee J. Hanson as vicepresident-program management to lead the delivery of the company’svalue-added services to large commercial, industrial andinstitutional customers nationwide. Hanson was formerly seniordirector of project delivery for Enron Energy Services’ Northwestoperations.

Lawrence R. Codey, president and chief operating officer ofPublic Service Electric and Gas Company and a member of the boardof its parent company, Public Service Enterprise Group, said hewill retire on Feb. 29. Codey, 55, has been with the corporationfor 26 years, serving the last eight as president. He will besucceeded as head of PSE&G’s electric and gas transmission anddistribution businesses by Alfred C. Koeppe, currently senior vicepresident-corporate services and external affairs and the formerpresident of Bell Atlantic-New Jersey. Koeppe, 52, joined PSE&Gfour years ago.
