PP&L Inc. named John Cotter vice president-energy marketing& trading. Cotter, who has more than 20 years of experience inthe marketing and trading of electricity, gas and oil, has servedas senior vice president-marketing for PP&L EnergyPlus,PP&L Inc.’s electricity sales subsidiary. He replaces MichaelT. Steffes, who last week resigned from PP&L, Inc. to pursueother interests. Cotter has been serving in the PP&L EnergyPlussenior vice president position since October.

Ronald L. Adams, Consolidated Natural Gas Co. senior vicepresident, regulated business, is leaving the company Sept. 1. ThePittsburgh-based company has put in place an interim managementstructure for its local gas distribution utilities and interstatepipeline and storage system until the previously announced mergerwith Dominion Resources Inc. is completed. Effective immediately,reporting to George A. Davidson Jr., CEO, are Jimmy D. Staton,senior vice president, distribution operations; Gary L. Sypolt,senior vice president, pipeline operations; Paul D. Koonce, seniorvice president, commercial operations; William A. Fox, senior vicepresident, Virginia gas distribution.

Bruce H. Braine, formerly vice president, analysis, has beennamed senior vice president, analysis for AEP Energy Services Inc.,a subsidiary of American Electric Power. In his new post, he willcontinue to be responsible for the development of analyses ofpower, gas and other energy markets for AEP’s wholesale businessactivities. Additionally, he will evaluate and assess coal marketand generation investment opportunities.

Thomas C. O’Laughlin has been promoted to vice president andgeneral counsel for the Gas Research Institute in Chicago. He hadbeen associate general counsel, secretary and acting generalcounsel. He will oversee all legal, contractual and regulatorymatters at GRI.
