ONEOK Field Services said Friday a new project in Oklahoma will lower the wellhead pressures of natural gas wells in Roger Mills and Custer counties there. The Tulsa-based gas gathering and processing company plans to construct several natural gas compressor installations totaling more than 20,000 horsepower and add modifications to the pipeline system.

“The project will help natural gas producing companies maintain the flow of natural gas form wells connected to ONEOK’s Field Services’ system,” said Greg Phillips, vice president of gas supply. Five new compressor stations will be constructed, and modifications and additions will be made to six existing compressor stations. The pipeline additions and modifications are necessary to operate the existing pipes at lower pressures, said ONEOK.

Phillips said the project “will enable producing companies to maintain the flow of natural gas wells as the wells age, thus maintaining natural gas supplies in an increasingly tight market.” He said the project is the result of a year of planning and design work to further enhance ONEOK Field Services’ position as a progressive natural gas gatherer in Oklahoma.

ONEOK Field Services has about 6,000 miles of gathering pipeline in western Oklahoma with connections to more than 3,600 wells.
