NIPSCO Industries is changing its name to NiSource Inc.(pronounced Nye-source), in an attempt to signal a new directionfor the company as a multi-state supplier of energy and waterresources and related services. The company’s logo will remain thesame, continuing to incorporate beams bursting from a point oflight.

“The NIPSCO Industries name, reflecting our beginnings asNorthern Indiana Public Service Company, has carried us a long waysince the company’s birth 87 years ago. But now, it’s time for achange that reflects more clearly our growth and new direction,”said NIPSCO Industries Chairman Gary L. Neale. “This Company hasgrown from a single-state combination natural gas and electricutility to a multi-regional supplier of gas, electricity, water andenergy services to approximately 1.4 million customers in 23 statesreaching along a corridor between Texas and Maine. The nameNiSource maintains a connection with the company’s heritage, but italso firmly establishes NI as a resource company with a broadergeographic focus.”

Under the proposal, only the holding company’s name wouldchange. The names of Northern Indiana Public Service Co., Bay StateGas Co. and IWC Resources, the company’s major subsidiaries, wouldremain the same. In addition, the company’s NYSE ticker symbol, NI,would not change.
