NextEra Energy Inc. is accelerating its pivot to renewables with a plan to sell some of its major natural gas pipeline assets as soon as this year in an effort to become a 100% renewable energy company.

NextEra CEO John Ketchum told investors during a call Monday that its decision to sell pipeline assets would help it offload assets investors have said “dilute an otherwise clean, renewable energy portfolio” while funding its plans for greater growth.

“We believe these changes could potentially invite a new class of investors looking to participate in the energy transition, especially since we expect NextEra Energy Partners to achieve ‘real zero’ carbon emissions in 2025,” Ketchum said.
