Texas Governor George W. Bush appointed Michael L. Williams ofArlington, TX, to the Railroad Commission of Texas. He will serveuntil the next General Election and until his successor is dulyelected and qualified. Williams is currently the general counsel ofthe Wilkins Group Inc., a systems integration telecommunicationsfirm in Richardson. He also represents private and public sectorclients in education and diversity matters through the GalileeGroup in Arlington.

“This is a challenging, volatile time for the Texas energyindustry and Michael is an individual who rises to a challenge. Iam pleased he has agreed to serve our state and confident he willdo an outstanding job,” Bush said.

In 1990, Williams was appointed by President George Bush to bethe assistant secretary of education for civil rights at the U.S.Department of Education, and he served as a special assistant tothe attorney general at the U.S. Department of Justice in 1989. Hewill replace Carole Keeton Rylander, who was elected comptroller ofpublic accounts. The appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
