Cooler forecast trends put pressure on natural gas futures in early trading Tuesday as the market looks to summer heat to help soak up a still-hefty storage surplus.

The September Nymex contract was down 6.5 cents to $2.569/MMBtu at around 8:50 a.m. ET.

Updated forecasts from Maxar’s Weather Desk showed cooler trends in the six- to 10-day period, with seasonal to below normal temperatures expected over the Midwest.
