Amid possible demand destruction from a tropical cyclone on track to reach Florida and the Southeast later this week, and amid concerns over the export demand outlook, natural gas futures reversed lower in early trading Tuesday.

Coming off a 54.4-cent rally in the previous session, the December Nymex contract was down 43.3 cents to $6.511/MMBtu at around 8:40 a.m. ET.

As of early Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) was tracking subtropical storm Nicole, a system churning east of the Bahamas.

According to the NHC, the storm was on track to approach Florida’s east coast late Wednesday before moving over central and northern Florida. Nicole was expected to reach southern Georgia Thursday and Thursday night, the forecaster said.
