With falling supply amid springtime pipeline maintenance supporting the fundamental outlook for natural gas, futures added to their recent gains in early trading Tuesday.

The June Nymex contract was up 1.7 cents to $2.212/MMBtu at around 8:30 a.m. ET. July was up 1.2 cents to $2.475. 

Daily production declined sharply in updated estimates on Tuesday from Wood Mackenzie, with domestic output down 3.5 Bcf/d day/day to 94.6 Bcf/d. This included a 660 MMcf/d upward revision to the prior day’s estimate, according to the firm.

Wood Mackenzie analyst Laura Munder noted day/day declines in Texas, the Permian Basin portion of New Mexico, the Northeast and North Louisiana. The lower output correlates with pipeline maintenance events in these regions, Munder noted.
