With mild weather expected well into October, offering little indication of the arrival of significant early season cold, natural gas futures skidded lower early Monday as traders turned their attention to the looming front month expiration.

The October Nymex contract was off 2.0 cents to $2.617/MMBtu at around 8:45 a.m. ET, while November was down 0.7 cents to $2.872.

After undergoing some small adjustments in terms of total degree days, weather models over the weekend continued to advertise “exceptionally comfortable” temperatures over the next 15 days, which would translate into “light to very light” weather-driven demand, according to NatGasWeather.
