Leviathan Gas Pipeline Partners LP contracted with MODECInternational LLC for construction of the hull for a floatingplatform to be used as part of its Sunday Silence field developmentproject in Gulf of Mexico Ewing Bank Blocks 958, 959, 1002 and 1003in 1,500 feet of water. MODEC International, which is owned by FMCCorp. and Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding, was selected byLeviathan after reviewing four competitive bids.

The contract for MODEC’s Moses Tension Leg Platform (TLP) is aturnkey contract that includes the design, fabrication andinstallation of the hull, tendons, pilings and production risers.The hull and tendons will be designed to support a deck and topsidefacilities weighing up to 6,000 short tons. The platform will bedesigned to process 25 thousand barrels of oil and 55 MMcf of gasper day and be capable of supporting a workover rig. The TLP willbe designed so it can be used at locations other than SundaySilence in water depths ranging up to 6,000 feet.

“By proceeding during a period of relatively slack conditions inthe offshore fabrication industry, we believe Leviathan will beable to realize significant cost savings, further enhancing thecommercial viability of our project,” said Grant E. Sims, LeviathanCEO.

Leviathan Gas Pipeline Partners is a publicly owned masterlimited partnership formed to acquire, own and manage offshorepipelines and related assets. El Paso Energy Corp. is the generalpartner of Leviathan and owns an effective 34.5% economic interest.
