Emergency crews over the weekend captured an estimated 14,000 bbl of oil that spilled into a northern Kansas creek, forcing the Keystone Pipeline to be shuttered last week, according to TC Energy Corp.

“The affected segment has been isolated and we have contained downstream migration of the release,” the Calgary-based pipeline firm said. “The system remains shut down as our crews actively respond and work to contain and recover the oil.”

On Monday TC officials indicated that they had not determined the cause. Excavation around the damaged part of the pipeline had begun.
