FuelCell Energy Inc. (FCE) was selected by the U.S. Departmentof Energy for a $3.125 million program to support the design of anultra-high efficiency, fuel cell/turbine hybrid power plant basedon the company’s Direct FuelCell (DFC). The system would combinethe FCE’s non-pressurized Direct FuelCell with a non-combustionturbine. The program includes development of a high-utilizationfuel cell and key system components, a sub-scale test of aDFC/turbine hybrid system and the conceptual design of a 40 MWpower plant.

Washington Gas Light Co. shareholders approved the company’splan to reorganize under a holding company structure yesterday. Itstill needs approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commissionand the SEC, as well as the completion of the Shenandoah Gas mergerto complete the process. Under the plan, which was first announcedin January (see Daily GPI, Jan. 4), Washington Gas Light Co. andthe subsidiaries it holds would become separate subsidiaries of thenew parent company, WGL Holdings, Inc. Washington Gas Light Co.would continue to operate as the regulated LDC for customersthroughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. More than 66% ofthe outstanding shares voted in favor of the proposed holdingcompany.
