The Interior Department and its policies are a high priority of President Obama, said Michelle Obama Monday, who reportedly was the first First Lady to drop in at the agency since Eleanor Roosevelt.

“You are at the center of this administration’s highest priorities, securing America’s energy future. Barack has talked about it time and time again, protecting its [the country’s] natural environment and using the natural resources…as responsibly as we can,” she said in remarks to the department.

“At a time when so many Americans are out of work, sound energy and environmental policies are going to help create thousands of jobs through the economic recovery and reinvestment plan that Barack is out there promoting today.”

She said Interior was the third agency that she has visited since arriving in Washington, DC. The First Lady added that each of the agencies has “had a different flavor.”
