Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) and Texas Eastern Transmission (Tetco) both reported natural gas pipeline damage on Tuesday. In both cases, there were no injuries and no fires, but gas flows were impacted.

Tetco’s entire 24-inch diameter mainline was shut in after a leak was found near its compressor station in French Link, IN. Tetco said it would maintain deliveries but was not accepting any receipts on Wednesday.

“All receipts between the Longview and French Lick compressor stations have been requested to shut in immediately,” the company said in a bulletin board notice. “This represents receipts in zones ETX/M1-24/M2-24. TE will maintain deliveries to all points on the 24 inch system throughout this outage… Shippers can resource alternative supplies in WLA, ELA, M1 30 inch and the M2 30 inch for gas day Oct. 15.”

The company did not know the cause of the leak, which is now being investigated. At first, pipeline operators thought the leak had occurred at the compressor station, but it was later determined to be about 100 yards east of the station, said Tetco spokeswoman Gretchen Kruegar.

“We are back-flowing from the 30-inch diameter line to maintain deliveries,” said Kruegar. “Flows are being redirected through west LA (Louisiana). There still continues to be minimal impact on deliveries.” Tetco operates two parallel mainlines that stretch from South Texas to New York.

FGT said a third-party excavator caused its eight-inch diameter pipeline near Manatee, FL, in Bradenton County to rupture Tuesday morning, forcing the small pipeline to be shut down. No explosion occurred and there were no injuries. The line, which serves Peoples Gas, was carrying 15-20 MMcf/d.

“Everything was back and flowing as of about 4 a.m. this morning,” said FGT spokeswoman Gina Taylor. “A backhoe was sitting on top of the line. We plan to send out a flyer to the community today.”
