The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has scheduled a one-day technical conference Jan. 16, 2003 to solicit information for the purpose of evaluating the status of capital available to energy markets and infrastructure. A second conference will be held Feb. 5 on credit issues and potential solutions.

The January meeting will hear representatives of investment banks, commercial banks, insurance companies, hedge funds, credit rating agencies and other similar institutions as well as market participants and end users. The Commission said that “contradictory anecdotal reports on availability and unavailability of financial banking needs to be cleared up to ensure that adequate, well-functioning energy markets and infrastructure is available to enable workable, competitive markets.”

The agenda “is currently being firmed up” for the January meeting and the February meeting is still in the early planning stages. Contact Anita Herrera of the Office of Market Oversight and Investigations at 202-502-8150 or Anita.Herrera@ferc.gov for further information.
