Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners LP (ETP) has completed two natural gas compression projects to increase capacity on its intrastate Cleburne to Carthage gas pipeline in East Texas, and it’s now readying another gas pipe to carry more Barnett Shale production to market hubs in the state.

ETP announced plans earlier this year to expand its ETC Katy Pipeline to add 500 MMcf/d of capacity to the Carthage Loop (see Daily GPI, Oct. 10). The two completed compression projects add about 90,000 hp on the Cleburne to Carthage pipeline, increasing gas deliverability at the Carthage hub to more than 2 Bcf/d.

The newly announced “Southern Shale” pipeline in the Barnett would consist of a 36-inch diameter pipeline originating in southern Tarrant County, TX, to deliver gas to ETP’s planned “Maypearl to Malone” pipeline expansion project. The new project would provide a direct interconnect for Barnett production to ETP’s pipeline infrastructure.

The Southern Shale pipeline is scheduled to be completed in 3Q2008; the Maypearl to Malone pipeline project is currently expected to be in service in 2Q2008.

“Once completed, the Southern Shale pipeline will provide an additional 600 MMcf/d of vital takeaway capacity from the Barnett Shale and will strengthen our position as the largest transporter of Barnett Shale production with over 3 Bcf/d of takeaway capacity,” said Roy Patton, senior vice president. “By expanding critical energy infrastructure, we continue to enhance market access for Texas natural gas producers to all the major hubs in Texas.”
