Energy Transfer LP plans to restart the permitting process with the Department of Energy (DOE) for its proposed Lake Charles LNG project as it seeks to capitalize on new momentum from offtakers and equity partners.

During a second quarter earnings call, Co-CEO Tom Long told analysts the company has been in “discussions” with DOE following its decision in April to deny a non-free trade agreement (FTA) permit extension for the Louisiana export project.

Long said reapplying for the permit is “the best path forward” after the company’s request to reconsider the decision was denied in June.

“We intend to continue to work with our existing customers, prospective equity investors and other stakeholders to progress the development of this project,” Long said.
