A bipartisan duo in the House have introduced legislation to incentivize renewable natural gas (RNG) use in motor vehicles through a $1/gasoline gallon equivalent (GGE) tax credit for fuel distributors.

Reps. Linda Sánchez (D-CA) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) introduced the Renewable Natural Gas Incentive Act of 2023, proposing to add RNG to the list of fuels available for a tax credit under federal law. 

RNG “is a clean, efficient, and affordable energy option that can reduce emissions among large supply chain vehicles,” Fitzpatrick said. The credit “will incentivize businesses to utilize RNG and further boost our economy and promote clean transportation.”
