Project Canary provided its first TrustWell Responsibly Sourced Gas (RSG) certification for midstream equipment to Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE) Compression Services’ CleanMachine compressor package.

The CleanMachine minimizes methane intensity to 0.2% through the elimination of raw methane produced by traditional compressor packages. Any methane that cannot be removed is captured by the system. The system also employs Project Canary’s monitoring sensors that provide live data on raw methane emissions.

The company is set to produce RSG “with full transparency on real-time performance via Project Canary’s continuous monitoring solution, as well as a third-party verification and certification process through TrustWell,” said BHE’s Peter Strezo, vice president of technology and environmental.

TrustWell certification provides ratings for gas wells or entire asset bases. It measures hundreds of engineering and operational aspects against 32 required data elements to certify the conditions under which gas is produced to gauge impacts and risks, with a focus on water, air, land and community. As pressure rises from customers and regulators for oil and gas producers to lower emissions profiles, more oil and gas producers have revealed plans to produce RSG. Most recently, Xcel Energy Inc. partnered with Crestone Peak Resources and Project Canary to launch an RSG pilot with plans to decarbonize its Colorado operations.
