Williston Expanding Powder River Access
Williston Basin Interstate Pipeline is planning to expand firm
transportation capacity from the rapidly growing Powder River Basin
to its connection with Northern Border in North Dakota by 55
MMcf/d. The company is holding an open season through Nov. 30.
The Williston Basin pipeline is being eyed by the market as a
growing corridor from the Rocky Mountain region to markets in the
Midwest. "We saw quite a bit of demand on our first open season [in
June] and in this one we expect to see a little bit more because
the basin is opening up more and we're seeing more interest," said
William D. Kickert, Williston's transportation services Manager.
Kickert said current delivery point capacity at Northern Border
is about 100 MMcf/d, rising by 20 MMcf/d following the results of a
June open season. "We have a constraint between there and the
center of our system and that's what this open season will
alleviate. It will increase the capacity to get to Glen Ullin, our
Northern Border interconnect."
Williston currently takes about 50 MMcf/d out of the Powder
River in the far northeastern corner of Wyoming and the
southeastern corner of Montana. The company said it plans to add
about 40 MMcf/d of receipt capacity based on market interest
collected during its June open season. A further receipt point
expansion will be the result of this new open season.
Williston will consider construction of 80 miles of new pipeline
between the Little Beaver and Dickinson Compressor Stations, the
installation of 4,000 HP of compression at Little Beaver, and the
looping and upgrade of other existing pipe. The targeted in-service
date of this capacity increase is Nov. 1, 2002.

season notice are available on Williston Basin's Internet web site
