New Century, Northern States Will Be Xcel Energy
Xcel Energy Inc. will be the name of the holding company created
by the merger of Denver-based New Century Energies and Northern
States Power Co. of Minneapolis.
James Howard, who currently is chairman and CEO of Northern
States Power and who will be the chairman of the combined company,
said, "Xcel Energy is a broad umbrella name that we believe sets
the tone for the kind of company we want to be." New Century
Energies President Wayne Brunetti, who will become the CEO of Xcel
Energy at the completion of the merger, said the new name was
selected to build a strong brand position for the future.

expecting the transaction to be complete in 12 to 18 months from
