Williams said Tuesday it had reduced the pressure in its leaking storage cavern in Eminence, MS, to allow gas to be flared rather than vented into the atmosphere. The facility serves Williams’ Transco pipeline.

Since Dec. 28 Williams has removed approximately 1.25 Bcf from storage cavern No. 3 at the Eminence facility following the discovery of a leak (see Daily GPI, Jan. 3). The current removal rate is about 6 MMcf/d.

“It is still difficult to estimate how much natural gas remains in storage cavern No. 3. The depressurization process will continue until the pressure within the cavern reaches zero,” Williams said. “This incident has not impacted Transco’s natural gas deliveries to its customers.”
