The Department of Defense has given the green light for FERC to issue an amended presidential permit to Sierra Production Co. to double the capacity of its border-crossing facilities at the Montana-Canadian line.

This marks the second time in less than a year that Sierra Production has sought authorization to expand the capacity of its international facilities, citing increased production in the Province of Alberta. The original facilities, which were sized at 5,000 Mcf, were expanded to 12,000 Mcf in December 2002. Last September, Sierra filed an application seeking to grow the capacity to 24,000 Mcf.

FERC is awaiting a response from the State Department, which also must review the application of Sierra Production.

In addition to expanding its capacity, Sierra Production is seeking authorization to both import and export gas over the border-crossing facilities between Montana and Alberta. Sierra Production in the past had been restricted to importing gas under its amended permit.
