Transco to Provide Gas to Dynegy Plant

Dynegy Inc. project affiliate Rockingham Power L.L.C. signed a long-term gas interconnection agreement with Williams' Transco pipeline. Williams' interconnection will provide capacity for up to 222 MMcf/d to fuel Dynegy's proposed 800-megawatt (MW) generation facility in Rockingham County, NC. Construction on the interconnection is scheduled to be completed in December. "Natural gas power generation is increasing and we look forward to additional opportunities to expand our pipeline system to meet this growing demand," said Frank Ferazzi, vice president of customer service and rates, Williams Gas Pipeline-Transco.

Dynegy announced plans to construct a 600 MW gas-fired peaking facility in Rockingham County in June. Since the announcement, Dynegy has elected to expand the Rockingham County Power Plant to five units with a generating capacity of about 800 MW. Commercial operations are expected to begin in June 2000.

The interconnect with Transco will include two 16-inch taps in Rockingham County, NC, near Transco's Station 160. Williams expects to file a prior notice for the proposed interconnect with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission this week.

The capacity of Dynegy's 31 U.S. generation assets currently operating, pending close or under construction is 6,832 gross MW. This includes the Rocky Road Power Plant, a 250-MW gas-fired peaking facility under construction in East Dundee, IL. Dynegy recently announced two 500 MW merchant power plant development projects in Heard County, GA, and Oldham County, KY.
