Argentina has authorized the firm supply of natural gas via pipeline to neighboring Chile through the end of 2024, reflecting Argentina’s aspirations as a key energy exporter to South America and the world. 

Having already guaranteed the flow of 9 million m3/d to Chile for the 2023-2024 austral summer, Argentina now has granted Chile the right to import up to 5 million m3/d during the 2024 winter period and up to 9 million m3/d from October-December 2024, said Argentina’s sub secretary of Latin American affairs, Gabriel Fuks. Winter in the southern hemisphere runs from June to September. 

Gas exports to Chile “represent the most sustainable path, in environmental and economic terms, to move toward decarbonization of the energy mix,” said Fuks.
