Vincente Martinez, who most recently served as an enforcement official with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has been tapped as the first director of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s (CFTC) new Whistleblower Office.

The Whistleblower Office, which was created by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, establishes a program under which the CFTC may pay awards to individuals who voluntarily provide original information about violations of the Commodity Exchange Act. To qualify for the award, the information provided must lead to a successful Commission enforcement action that results in monetary sanctions or more than $1 million or a related action.

Martinez most recently was an assistant director in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement. While at the SEC, he helped to establish and run the SEC’s Office of Market Intelligence, which handles the collection and analysis of tips, complaints and referrals from the public, government agencies and self-regulatory organizations.
