Germany is preparing for its first of several new LNG import terminals to arrive offshore near the end of the week, marking a milestone in its plan to increase import capacity and cut reliance on Russian pipeline gas.

FSRU

The Hoegh Esperanza, a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) owned by Höegh LNG AS, is expected to arrive at Wilhelmshaven on Germany’s northwestern coast Saturday. It left port from Sagunto, Spain, on Dec. 1, according to data from Kpler, after being loaded with around 165,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas.

Once docked, the FSRU will be part of an 11 million metric ton/year import terminal operated by utility Uniper SE until at least 2029.
