Local natural gas distribution companies are showing signs of becoming more collaborative in developing greenfield infrastructure projects, a representative of storage tank specialist Cashman Preload Cryogenics (CPC) said at the LDC Gas Forum Southeast in Savannah, GA last month.

Traditionally, a local distribution company (LDC) would own, operate, and invest in greenfield projects, CPC’s Jeff Tounge, development lead, said.

“It’s your business model to get a rate of return on the steel that you invested in the ground,” he said. “And that’s always been the case.”

Tounge noted, however, that his company in recent years has observed the LDC sector’s mindset evolving on the issue of taking on partners to jointly develop projects.
