Williams Transco pipeline has 526,000 Dt/d of binding commitments for its Momentum Expansion Project which “will be one of the largest mainline expansion projects constructed in Transco’s 50-plus year history,” according to Gary Lauderdale, senior vice president and general manager of the line.

The project will involve looping along parts of the mainline from Station 65 in Louisiana to Station 165 in Virginia, as well as added compression at existing stations. Williams plans to file for the expansion with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission during the second quarter of 2001. The target in-service date is May 1, 2003. Transco held an open season for the line last fall.

Transco’s expansion is in competition with several projects proposed by other pipelines to increase capacity to the Southeast to serve an expanded population and additional power generation load. Dominion Transmission, Duke Transmission and Columbia Transmission all have projects in the planning stages for the area (see Daily GPI, Oct. 9). And Transco currently is soliciting interest in a further expansion of the northern end of the Momentum project (see Daily GPI, April 9).
