Utilities Springing Ahead To Test Y2K Readiness
In separate announcements, Southern Company and PacifiCorp
touted their readiness for the year 2000. Both said utility
subsidiaries are testing systems by setting their clocks forward to
replicate conditions in a year 2000 environment. Generation,
transmission and distribution systems are being tested by the

manager for PacifiCorp. "Making the transition now will help our
customers and the public to have the same confidence we have about
the extent and reliability of our preparations."

Paul DeNicola, CEO of Southern Company Services and the year 2000
steering committee chair for Southern Company. "We currently have
some systems operating in the year 2000, and we have not
experienced problems that would interrupt service."
