Crusoe Energy Systems LLC has partnered with XCL Resources LLC in Utah’s Uinta Basin to turn an estimated 6 MMcf/d of excess natural gas emissions into electricity, which would be used to power modular data centers through digital flare mitigation (DFM).

The DFM systems have been commissioned and are fully operational. At full capacity, the DFM system could  reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 273,000 tons/year, equivalent to taking 60,000 cars off the road for a year, Crusoe officials said.

Crusoe’s proprietary DFM system works by turning the wasted natural gas into energy to reduce emissions. With more than 120 modular DFM data centers across the United States, the system last year reduced excess natural gas by more than 4 Bcf.
