Natural gas futures soared higher in early trading Monday as weather models over the weekend locked in on a transition to much colder temperatures arriving over key demand markets by next week. Adding to a 42.5 cent rally in Friday’s session, the December Nymex contract was up 57.0 cents to $6.970/MMBtu at around 8:45 a.m. ET.

Weather data trended notably colder over the weekend, including a “hefty” addition of 23 heating degree days from the European model, according to NatGasWeather.
