The U.S. natural gas industry faces multiple challenges, but depleting resources do not yet appear to be one of them, according to the Potential Gas Committee’s (PGC) latest assessment of the country’s gas endowment.

The PGC, composed of about 80 volunteer geoscientists and engineers, has been publishing a year-end report on domestic gas reserves and resources every two years since 1964.

The country’s future gas supply, which includes proved reserves, as well as probable, possible and speculative resources, stood at 3,978 Tcf at the end of 2022, researchers found.
